This workshop, the third in the series, focused on theory, techniques, and tools for performability modeling, along with their application to the evaluation and design of computer and communication systems. The workshop was held immediately following the 1996 International Computer Performance and Dependability Symposium (September 4-6, 1996, Urbana, Illinois, USA) with the following schedule:

WORKSHOP FORMAT AND SUBMISSIONS

Contributions were sought concerning the performability of computer and communication systems and related systems for production (e.g., flexible manufacturing, product-in-process software development) and use (e.g., medical systems, intelligent transportation systems). The atmosphere of the workshop was informal, with a presentation time of 20-30 minutes for each speaker. No full papers were required, with the aim of stimulating a free exchange of new ideas and recent results. Extended abstracts of up to 4 pages were solicited from prospective speakers. A book containing the abstracts of the presented talks was compiled and distributed to all attendees. For further information about this workshop contact:

LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS

The Indian Lakes Resort has a contemporary but casual decor and is well equipped for both small meetings and large conventions. It has received an award for architectural excellence and is surrounded by lavishly landscaped grounds, including two golf courses and six tournament-class tennis courts.
